Welcome to ESTUARY
Exploring STREAMS Teachings that Uplift Agency and Responsibility with Youth

Mission Statement

The ESTUARY Lab explores STEAM teaching and learning that uplifts youth agency and shared responsibility. We partner with educators and communities to design place-based, justice-centered learning experiences that honor emotion, support belonging, and connect scientific thinking to the lives and futures young people care about.

What does STREAMS mean?

Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies. What does this mean for you? It means no matter what subject you are interested in, this project is for you.

What is an Estuary

Estuaries are unique ecosystems where freshwater from rivers meet saltwater from oceans, resulting in brackish water that supports diverse plant and animal life crucial for ecological heath.

A thriving school is its own kind of estuary.

The freshwater is our core knowledge, standards, and teaching practices. The disciplines and routines we’ve built as educators.

The brackish water, where they mix, is the learning environment — a living system where academic rigor meets relevance.

The saltwater is the real world our students live in — their identities, cultures, lived experiences, and the complex challenges and opportunities of our time.
